So supposedly Android O with AAudio is suppose to be the big thing now. So is this suppose to finally solve latency on Android?
Android O is a step in the right direction, and we’re seeing good results in our NOISE app for Android.
The issues on Android are far from being solved though, as devices are lagging at least a year behind the latest version of Android. Also, a large factor of the latency and audio performances lies in the way the audio drivers are implemented on each device, and manufacturers are taking rather different approaches to this.
So, while you can expect good performances on Google’s flagship devices (Pixel 1 & 2 phones), the rest of the Android ecosystem will offer variable performances.
