Components tabs and button

Are you able to place buttons within the area set aside for tabs like in the picture displayed? The button is the hamburger on the right. It is set up as an image button in my main component where the tabs are also initialized. I have everything set up correctly for the button to work and it does work in other components, but it does not work when placed in this area. I’m just a little confused why this would happen. Would there be anything interfering with the button because of the tabs. Thanks for any help.
