Graphics roadmaps? best thing to learn in 2020

Having features in a forthcoming product that need acceleration I’ve started dipping my toe in the world of OpenGL etc.

What I find a bit disturbing is that I start to learn more about it - we appear to be on the brink of platform based splits in standards with Apple wanting everyone to use Metal.

My question is this then: If you were learning graphics libraries and building products that were going to be cross platform - what would your strategy be at this point in time? Do you think it’s inevitable that codebases will have to support more than one standard (and in fact is that what everyone is already doing - I’m just entering these waters so not very up to speed on what everyone currently does either)

(with particular reference to JUCE of course )
