Is this the correct way to oversample your entire synth voice and effect chain

Prepare dsp oversampling

Set synthesizer sample rate to over sampling factor

Process synthesizer with new larger buffer

Process all end of chain effects

Process samples down

Copy to output buffer

No, it’s wrong. IIRC, Dan Worrall has a video about this. At least for effects:

  • for those introduce aliasing, over-sample EACH of them (do not over-sample the whole chain, it will not help as harmonics will ‘‘add-up’’ very fast).
  • for those do not, save your computing power.

I see thank you was thinking since my effects are part of my synthesizer voice for example filters it would be easier to over sample

Right now I am zero padding the filter and then picking the first value within the voice

But all other effects are at end of chain

He says you can do what I described but might not be the best

when you use ableton each plugin has to upsample than down sample for the next effect so what you describe makes sense. Here he is doing it in reaper
