I totally agree with what Jules says -- everywhere in the video actually, but specifically reworking an existing functioning project as an exercise.
I learned C++11 last year doing exactly this. It took me through pretty much every construct!
Because you start with a working project, you can get started making incremental changes which you can quickly test out. Then your changes gradually become more and more bold, until you're pulling the entire structure through itself, and it ends up a 100% rewrite.
It would be nice to see some lightning JUCE challenge videos, like "here's how to build an oscilloscope in five minutes". Maybe I will make some as I get more comfortable with the framework.
