Kontakt-inspired sampler: Where to start?

Hello,

I am new to JUCE and my main goal is to program an Kontakt-inspired sampler (though with a smaller feature set for use in Unity). While there are a lot of tutorials out there, most of them seem to be on syths, dsp and simpler one-shot samplers. Can anyone point me to resources on instrument samplers? Or do I have to start out with a one-shot sampler and go on my own from there?

In terms of audio-“programming” I come from a background of Max/MSP, but I also have some programming experience in C++ and Java.
