Job description

This position provides an exciting opportunity for a programmer to join the IRiMaS project team for six months to assist in the development of a PC (Windows) version of the project’s innovative TIAALS software. The post is full-time although part-time options may be considered.

IRiMaS (Interactive Research in Music as Sound) is a ground-breaking research project (Interactive Research in Music as Sound (IRiMaS) - University of Huddersfield) funded by the European Research Council. It is based in the School of Arts & Humanities at the University of Huddersfield. The project is establishing new ways of researching and analysing music using interactive software. TIAALS (Tools for Interactive Aural Analysis) is a set of integrated software tools designed to facilitate music researchers in deploying such an approach. It enables researchers who are not themselves expert programmers to engage with music interactively and aurally, incorporating active engagement with sound and video into their research investigations and outcomes. Having successfully pioneered such an approach in relation to electroacoustic music in earlier projects IRiMaS expands this approach to a wider range of musics.

The programmer will work under the supervision of the project director, Prof Michael Clarke, and alongside two postdoctoral research fellows who are developing a Mac OS version of the software. The team also includes musicologists, based in Huddersfield and elsewhere, researching interactive approaches to a wide range of music repertoire and who work with the software under development and provide feedback.
