Where is the AU Plugin?

A beginner question:
I built an AU plugin with Xcode. When I look in the User/Library/Audio/Plugins/Components/ I only find “plugin.component”. Where is the “Plugin.AU”? I thought the file extension for AU plugins was “.AU”.

The file extension for AU plug-ins is .component indeed.
