I started in audio DSP working on a contract to create ‘virtual 3D’ from 2 speakers for Dolby Labs in 1996. I was eventually let go for pointing out that it was actually still just 2d, but with improved psychoacoustic positioning, after which, Dolby dropped the contract to the company I was working for. they couldn’t fire me right away because even its President hadn’t realized that when I said it. Over the years I have tried to overcome this bad tendency of tactlessly telling the truth in the face of bad marketing, mostly unsuccessfully. I am now retired.
I do have a few minor successes from silicon valley, most notably, work still in use on the original Intel Pentium I superscalar architecture; the CDMA algorithm for the first 802.11 wireless chipset; the UI infrastructure for Comcast Xfinity and TeleWest STBs; and a year on the iPad MPU. but mostly I worked at startups which made the executives fabulously rich before going bankrupt, who liked hiring me to make themselves seem more credible.
I enjoyed Reaktor version 2.3 but it got progressively worse and I switched to Cycling74 which is now having similar problems, so I came back here. I did try compiling Juce 2, it took a very long time to get ithe builds working across each release in those days. Very impressed with Juce 5. Worked straight out the box. Even has VST33 sdk in it.
