ALSA error: Input/output error

JUCE v2.0.21
ALSA device: hw:Intel,0 outs=2-6 ins=2-2 rates=6
ALSA error: Input/output error
ALSA: read failure

Also for JuceDemo.

magic spell anyone?

Ah, the mysterious world of ALSA… Never quite got my head around all its foibles.

i’ll have a hack around with it then.

what happens if i decline JUCE_ALSA, does audio not work at all or is there a fallback

Hopefully someone else on the forum might know more about ALSA than me…?

You could try using JACK instead of ALSA, which might have a better chance of working.

A little more information about the failing device would be handy: could you compile and run alsacap to give us a more detailed look at what your device wants and/or needs from Juce?

I’m working on the JUCE alsa code, I have modified it to allow it to use any alsa device (instead of only hardware devices, this was mentionned here: http://www.rawmaterialsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8143 ) – it is still a work in progress.

Would you replace your juce_linux_ALSA.cpp file with the one attached here ? Then build the JuceDemo and run it with “ALSA_VERBOSE=1 ./JuceDemo” in order to have it being verbose
