C++ Mobile Application Developer

The Role

Blackstar Amplification is seeking a talented Mobile Application Developer with a solid understanding of the JUCE framework to join its software development team.

In this role, you will hold responsibility for the full software development life cycle of our mobile applications and be part of a passionate, exciting, and music-centric team that is developing the next generation of audio products.

We are a small team in a small company. Therefore, we would like to hear from applicants who take a flexible approach to their work and would be willing to assist in various departments and activities when required.

Main Activities and Tasks:

  • Design, develop and maintain cross-platform (iOS and Android) mobile applications for the musical instrument market.
  • Bring cutting edge new products to market on the App Store and Google Play.
  • Collaborate with the wider team to peer review, bug fix, and generally improve Blackstar’s multi-platform software ecosystem
  • Devise, control and carry out pre-release test procedures for both hardware and software products.

Requirements

  • Proven knowledge and professional experience with:
    • Modern C++ and the JUCE Framework
    • Git and the command line
    • Cross-platform Mobile Application Development for iOS and Android
    • UI/UX implementation
    • Deployment to App Store and Google Play
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a commercial software development environment
  • Ability to produce clean, accurate and reusable code
  • Qualified to degree level or above in Computer Science or related field

Desirable

  • Experience with:
    • Dart and the Flutter framework
    • Build systems, ideally CMake
    • CI/CD, ideally GitHub Actions
    • Plugin Architectures (AU, VST3, AAX, LV2).
    • Agile development practices and associated software (Jira, Confluence etc.)
    • Unit Testing
  • Guitar player or an active interest in music technology
  • An understanding of: DSP Principles, Linux Development, Real Time Audio or Low-level programming

Application

  • Primarily office based in Northampton, UK, with opportunity for hybrid working
  • Full time 8.00 – 17.00, Monday – Friday
  • Competitive salary based on experience
