Modular Synths Built On Juce

#1

I’ve been wanting to build a basic modular synth for a long time. It never had to have anything fancy. It just had to a) host VSTS b) allow you to route signals from said VSTs c) have modulators such as envelope generators and LFOs. I thought I was going to have to build all this stuff from scratch. But, when I cracked open the Juce Plug-In Host, my jaw dropped because a) and b) were already covered. This app allows you to mix 1 or more VSTS as a sound source, and then add FX etc. in to the signal path. I am literally stunned by this because to the letter it is exactly what I wanted to build. It even has red lines for midi, and green lines for audio signals. I’m stoked!

Now, all it really needs to be a full fledged modular synth is to have modulators to allow parameters etc. to be modulated.

Has anyone else build a modular synth on Juce which is available? Has anyone got example of LFOs etc. modulating parameters in a VST? I have a feeling that there must be at least a couple floating around.

Thanks!!!

This one is pretty popular!

If you’re looking for an open source one you can take a look at jost.

I built this modular effect plugin (and host) using juce:

http://studio-units.com/

It’s free, but not open source and it only works on Windows.

The SU are quite nice on paper (didn’t try them yet). Did you code them all ? Did you use stuff like MDA plugins or Vinn’s stuff ?

I did code them all, with some help from the Intel IPP library.
