Integrating customer data to grow a plugin business

Hey Gang,

I’ve been bouncing around the forums and am amazed how much useful customer information gets split between different services.

The store knows what somebody purchased. Cool.
The licensing system knows whether they activated it. Awesome.
The plugin can know which version is installed. Great.
The email platform usually knows very little beyond an email address. Booooo.

Connecting some of that information can make a big difference.

You can send updates only to people using an affected version, follow up with customers who purchased but never activated, recommend expansions based on what someone owns, and exclude existing owners from emails that are not relevant to them.

It can also improve automated marketing flows such as cart recovery, post purchase emails, review requests, upgrade offers, and customer re-engagement.

Analytics become more useful too. Instead of measuring only email opens, clicks, and purchases, you can see whether a customer successfully activated and continued using the product.

The point is not to track everything someone does. It is to connect the minimum useful information, with proper privacy controls, so communication is more relevant and less repetitive.

A lot of smaller plugin businesses already have this data. The problem is that it is usually spread across several systems that do not communicate with each other.

This is not only provides growth but reduces your workload tremendously.

Thats my little rant that I pray someone understood. It’s late.

Best,

Aaron
