OS X mouse acceleration

On Mac OSX I can just not accustomate myself to its mouse acceleration behaviour - I find this is one of the things that are just better on Windows XP.

Would it be possible to write some kind of hook that gets the mouse messages from the Window Server, modifies them (i.e. applies some different acceleration), destroys the old events and puts the new ones instead?

Perhaps this is not possible - I have not much experience with Mac OS X, so I thought somebody in here perhaps knows an answer or solution to that problem.

nah - that’s all done by the OS, or maybe the mouse-driver. You’d never manage to intercept it in a sensible way.

But how does SteerMouse then work?
This is a utility that modifies OSX mouse behaviour such as acceleration.

Seems to be a driver, that´s how they classify it at least.
