Is it possible in any way to load .aupreset, .vstpreset etc. saved from different plugin?

After much consideration, we decided that we are unable to release an update to our plugin, and instead we must release it as a new plugin. This is due to a change in parameters ranges and the interpretation of parameters between plugin<->DAW.

However, this new plugin has exactly the same parameters, with the same names and IDs, but with completely new ranges.

Inside the new plugin, we have implemented a translation of the parameters from the old to the new plugin. So we can easily load presets from the old plugin into the new one, but only presets saved as our custom preset files.

However, we also want to enable the user to load presets saved in files such as .aupreset, .vstpreset, etc.

Is this possible in any way?

This is one reason why plugins often include their own preset management instead of relying on the host to do this.

But yes, you can write a loader for .aupreset and .vstpreset files. The VST3 SDK has code to read/write .vstpreset files while .aupreset is just an XML file.
