There have been some discussions recently (eg here and there) on how animations based on VBlankAttachment might cause issues with high refresh rates monitors.
Some gamer displays now go up to 540Hz, 9 times the usual 60Hz, and the number of users with high refresh displays will only go up, even on Mac.
So, how do you test for these use cases?
Would there be a way to “simulate” higher refresh rates at a low enough level that it would show potential problems?
Latency is not an issue and all these frames don’t even have to be displayed: I guess a simple HDMI or DP converter could be able to do the trick, presenting high refresh rates capabilities to the host and converting to 60Hz by throwing away a given number of frames…
Alternatively would anyone know about some cheap and small display on the market that would accept high refresh rates (240Hz and up)?
It does not even need to properly render all those frames: it could be something similar to those small displays that accept 1080p but convert to a lower native resolution internally, albeit for refresh rates.
