Where to store a license file?

I'm using a copy protection scheme that involves validating a license file. Should I just stuff the contents of the file in appProperties->GetUserSettings()? Or is there an appropriate place to store such files? Like the equivalent of the Application Support folder on OS X.

Upon more searching, looks like userApplicationDataDirectory is the right place :)
