On macOS, why does the Projucer default to copying audio plug-ins to the user’s library folder (~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST), rather than the system library folder? I know I can change this within the Projucer’s settings, but is there a reason why this is the default? All of my other 3rd party audio plug-ins typically download to the system’s library folder.
All of those plugins are usually installed with an installer that has been given admin privileges by the user.
I can’t say for certain, but I don’t think you need admin privileges to write to ~/Library/Audio/Plug-ins
but you do need them to write to /Library/Audio/Plug-ins

Ah, that makes sense. I just wasn’t sure if there was some benefit I should be aware of (other than user specific access). Thanks!
