I’m looking for an experienced embedded audio/DSP engineer to assist with a paid feasibility study and proof-of-concept for a new guitar project.
The project involves processing six independent piezo string signals in real time and evaluating an embedded DSP platform such as Daisy for the prototype.
The initial technical goals are:
-
Six independent piezo/string inputs
-
Appropriate high-impedance analog front end
-
Multichannel A/D conversion
-
Very-low-latency DSP
-
Independent per-string processing
-
High-quality acoustic instrument/body modeling
-
Per-string pitch shifting for alternate tunings
-
Convincing 12-string processing
-
D/A conversion to a conventional guitar/line-level output
-
Evaluation of Daisy versus other appropriate embedded DSP hardware
The first phase is not development of a finished commercial guitar. I want to establish technical feasibility and develop a working bench prototype.
Ideal background
I’m especially interested in someone with experience in several of the following:
-
Embedded C/C++
-
Real-time audio DSP
-
Daisy / ARM Cortex-M / SHARC or comparable DSP platforms
-
Multichannel ADC/DAC and audio codecs
-
Low-latency pitch shifting
-
Polyphonic or per-string audio processing
-
Piezo pickup electronics
-
Guitar or other musical-instrument electronics
-
Acoustic instrument/body modeling
-
PCB/electronics development
Experience developing commercial musical equipment, guitar processors, pedals, synthesizers, or similar embedded audio products would be particularly valuable.
Initial engagement
I envision beginning with a paid, limited-scope feasibility/architecture phase.
The initial deliverables would likely include:
-
Review the technical requirements.
-
Recommend an appropriate DSP/ADC/DAC architecture.
-
Determine whether Daisy is suitable or whether another processor/platform would be preferable.
-
Identify expected latency, processing-power, and signal-separation limitations.
-
Develop a plan and cost estimate for a six-channel proof-of-concept.
-
If appropriate, proceed to development of the prototype.
I am a musician and long-time user of acoustic modeling instruments, so I can provide extensive hands-on evaluation of the sound and playability during development.
This is a paid project, and remote collaboration is fine.
If interested, please send me a private message with:
