The best rotary dial style?

Okay folks. My dials aren’t great. I need a really great dial. The best dial. Help, please point me to the best dial resources on the face of the earth.

AI can generate some awesome looking dials but it never gets the text quite right and it’s usually not possible to edit due to the many details.

What’s wrong with your dials?

If you’re asking about specific graphics, the dial graphics need to fit with the rest of your design. Trying to stick some arbitrary (even if good looking) dial images into your UI won’t automatically make your plug-in look good.

I’m releasing a plugin which will be basically just two dials, one large and one small. The remainder of the UI is just going to be a background texture. So the dial is the most important aspect.

I’d say in general my UI has been the lowest quality aspect of my plugins so wanted to try a much more polished simple UI for this one.

My 2 cents: If you can’t do a great-looking eye candy design, go for a simple design instead.

(Although having just two dials makes this a bit harder because it might end up being too simple.)

If you have a few bucks to spare, I suggest hiring a graphics designer.

I’m just asking for dials I’ve got the whole meta conversation about dials or not dials or simple or complex already sorted thanks.

Sounds like you want something for free, and you want it now.

Literally was just asking for dial resources and was in a playful mood. Why even respond if you’re just going to be rude or blab about unrelated tangents?

Btw I didn’t ask for free, I asked for dial resources. Which could very well be paid.

Spend some hours or days on learning Knobman (for desktop) https://www.g200kg.com/en/webknobman/gallery.php

Buy stuff at sites like https://uimother.com/ (and support someone in Ukraine with it)

Thx. Will check those out.

There was a library mentioned recently which had some really stunning dials, but I’m having a hard time finding the thread. I believe it had its own complex rendering pipeline and wasn’t easy to integrate into JUCE, though.

This uimother is really nice! Might do the trick

Hi, check out my assets - UIMASTER.CO | Assets - Payhip

And my main site for bespoke is - www.uimaster.co

Cheers, J

I bought the RX 7 kit and ran into a bit of a problem.

The dials (both the oneshots and stripes) seem to have the background “baked” in. There’s transparency but it doesn’t look good as a result. You might say “you have to use their exact layout and background” but that wouldn’t make sense either because there are two different layouts with different backgrounds and only one set of knob assets.

Sent them an email but haven’t heard back.

They ghosted me without resolving the issue so I had to dispute the charge on my credit card.

Another vote for knob gallery .. some pretty nice looking things in there.

Another thing you can do is scan the VCVRack community - there are a lot of open source projects there - and see what kind of resources are available there. I recall there being some free resources for VCVRack programmers floating around ..

I would go for a retro, minimalist or flat design that’s procedural and parametric.

Here is another juce knob you can use and/or adapt.

But i have been thinking of rebuilding knobman in a modern way. Creating svgs…
