Can iLok cause crashes in plugins which do not use iLok?

I have received a very strange crash log (latest Logic Pro, Catalina) from a customer,
with “Exception Type: EXC_BREAKPOINT”, which is strange because the plugin is build in release mode without any breakpoints.

After short investigation I found this crash log very similar to other crash-logs on the web, where the problem is linked to iLok. Can that be?

I believe there is currently a bug where this can happen if the plug-in is loaded together with an ilok plug-in. Didn’t believe it when I heard about it but based on that it looks like it could be true.
