I sent a signed copy of the VST-3 license to reception@steinberg.de, and getting a bit concerned as there has never been any response since I sent on Jan 12th. Does this mean the request is not approved, or is it normal for them to take a long time to reply? My understanding, according to their documentation, was they would be replying with a counter-signed copy on approval.
It takes a few days, though they were faster when I did it. Don’t worry though. It’s processed by humans and they will tell you in case there’s something wrong. But it’s surely also ok to politely follow up after a while.
They took a month and a couple days in my case.
when is this license required?
iirc when you want to distribute closed source plugins. The exact and correct answer will be here somewhere, afraid I don’t have time to go digging through it to confirm.
If you consider the removal of the VST license, it is very sensible to get the license in writing for the records and for a bad day.
Even if it might not be enforced at the moment.
I forgot to update this thread, Steinberg did eventually respond and sign the license paperwork.
It took ultimately about a month and a half from the day I sent the paperwork.
