I want to know how often juce releases the versions, and when will be the JUCE 8 release ? What will be the main points ?
Search the forum for the most recent JUCE survey for a list of things the team consider to be most important moving forward. As for JUCE 8, I’m also curious about its release date.
We don’t have any news to share about the release date of JUCE 8. We’re currently working on JUCE 8 features, but we’re not yet in a position to provide even an approximate deadline.
It’s ready when it has been completed.
Reading your last posts it seems you are waiting for MS to fully release their MIDI 2.0 implementation to finish it in JUCE. According to Microsoft: Hello MIDI 2.0 – We’re opening the repo! expected timelines (version 1.0 by the end of 2023) can we expect to have MIDI 2.0 in JUCE 7.1 for Jan/February 2024?
Although there has been really significant public progress with MIDI 2.0 in Windows lately, it has come too late to be part of JUCE 7. You are correct that our initial aim, a year or so ago, was to have Windows MIDI 2.0 support in 7.1, but we have had to adapt our plans somewhat as the timeline extended. We should be able to release a lot of the MIDI 2.0 functionality that is possible over MIDI 1.0 transport (MIDI CI and UMP) in the near future, but more comprehensive MIDI 2.0 support like virtual MIDI 2.0 devices will be part of JUCE 8.
Are there any planned rendering improvements for Juce 8? Will it include Vulkan support or any other enhancements?
Great that was what I really needed to know so I didn’t roll my own “dirty” MIDI 2.0 implementation on top if it was comming to JUCE in the near future anyway.
