Laptop Recommendations for portable VST3 Development

I’m looking to get a laptop for JUCE (VST3) development that I can use on the go, whether outside, traveling, or just working away from home. Up until now, I’ve been using a Windows computer, but I’ve had some pretty rough experiences with Windows laptops, and I’m not super confident when it comes to hardware specs.

My budget is around 1000€, and I’d really appreciate any advice on what type of setup I should be aiming for.

  • Is there an OS that works better with JUCE and C++?
  • Any hardware specs I should definitely look out for (or avoid)?

Can’t go wrong with a MacBook of some kind. MacOS is a superlative environment for audio software development.

If Apple isn’t your thing, then really it’s just a matter of finding a machine within your budget that you feel comfortable using - the feel of the keyboard, screen size and so on. Only real thing to watch, is that you should get as much RAM as you can - it helps immensely with big compiles and so on, and don’t forget that the JUCE framework itself is a big build.
